Athletics Club
In the Spring our thoughts turn to athletics. The boys are so eager to start, it is as if they spend the long winter evenings thinking of nothing else but running and sprinting. Eventually we select a team and every year we participate in the Primary Schools Sports Day.
Chess Club
Chess is taught in the senior classes of St Brendans. The boys play each other for fun, and are encouraged to learn new strate¬gies as they gain experience. Boys can play league chess within the school at lunch time and other pre-arranged times.
Gaelic Football Club
Gaelic football has a long and distinguished history in St Brendans. Leagues are run for the boys during school time. Inter schools competitions are run under the auspices of Cumann na mBunscol. It is a huge achievement for any boy to be able to say over the years “I won that medal in Croke Park”. The following is a complete record of all competitions won by St Brendans Artane since the present building was opened in 1959;

The Geraldine Cup – Senior Football 1964
The Johnston, Mooney & O’Brien Cup – Senior Hurling 1964
The Marino Cup – Senior Hurling 1965
The Jubilee Cup – Junior Football 1977
The Geraldine Cup – Senior Football 1979
The McGrath Shield – Junior Football 1979
Corn Mhic Phiarais – Senior Football 1992
Finalists Corn Chlanna Gael 2007

Apart from these successes, Brendans have had a number of near misses in Croke or Parnell Park. The “Corn O Donnchu” cup final in 2001 was one of the most notable where the boys lost by a single point. There is a strong connection between St Brendans B.N.S. and Parnell’s G.A.A Club.

After schools Club
Afterschools club is available to all boys  after school.
Student Council
The aim of the Student Council is to allow the children an opportunity to contribute to the positive development of our school and to let the students’ voices be heard. Members of the Council are elected to represent their class and bring forth the opinions of all class members and not personal views.  Children who are members of the student council are expected to be positive role models for the other students and to act responsibly at all times. Elections take place in September each year.
Choir
Many school events, First Holy Communion, Confirmation, School Concerts, etc are made all the better and more enjoyable with the participation of the school choir. Many boys, particularly from senior classes, love to be part of this lovely unit and the school is suitably proud of the significant contribution they make to events that occur during the school year. Tin Whistle is taught to boys in fourth and fifth classes.

Spanish Classes are available to boys in 5th and 6th classes during school.
Swimming Clubs
The boys in the school go swimming once a week. It is a very enjoyable hour for those who go but it is also of excellent long term benefit because the boys are learning a skill which will enable them to enjoy many hours of recreation in the future while helping them to stay fit and healthy at the same time. We have a gala at the end of the year and we are affiliated to the Irish Schools Swimming Association (Leinster Branch).
